Hollis Artspace

Artists & Teachers Anna Birch & Chris Volpe started Hollis Artspace, LLC, in 2022 and will be offering art classes to all ages, as well as creating their own art on site. Anna and Chris are excited about the opportunity to continue the work of keeping art education and offerings in this region, following in the footsteps of K.C. & Charlie Morgan, of Wild Salamander Creative Arts Center, who ran their center for ten years in this location from 2012 to 2022.

Both Anna and Chris have taught at Wild Salamander Creative Arts Center. Anna has been a longstanding teacher and workshop leader since 2012. Anna has experience in paper arts, printmaking, fiber arts and experiments with various mediums. Her website can be found here. Chris moved his painting studio from Lowell MA and has made his studio’s home here at Hollis Artspace, where he creates oil paintings and offers workshops and classes. Chris also writes about art for Art New England magazine and writes a daily art newsletter called Inside Art through Streamline Publishing. His website can be found here.

Anna & Chris live in Hollis, where Anna grew up. They lived in the Portsmouth area for 20 years but moved back to the area in 2010. The house at 30 Ash Street was her best friend Naomi Whitty’s home growing up, and she first visited the house when she was only 6 weeks old and has been coming back ever since! Lucie Whitty and Arthur Whitty were important creative and artistic influences in her life, and the building at 30 Ash Street has long held positive creative connections… which just keep going! Just after she moved back to the area in 2010, she learned of an art center getting started on Ash Street and immediately wanted to become involved. Anna worked with KC and Charlie Morgan at their wonderful business Wild Salamander Creative Arts Center from its start in 2012, teaching, helping with gallery shows, marketing and selling her wares in the shop.
